Content chaos is trigger for ECM purchase
Growing content chaos within organisations is the main buying trigger for Enterprise Content Management systems

For most new users of Enterprise Content Management systems, the chaotic state of their documents, emails and electronic content is the final trigger to get things under control, according to the annual AIIM “State of the ECM Industry” report. Whilst existing users are putting increased productivity and optimised business processes well ahead of compliance as the main justification for their ongoing ECM investment, new adopters are more likely to be galvanised by the need to take control of their proliferating file shares, email stores, web pages and paper records.

Emails can get you into trouble
It’s not just 10 Downing Street that could have problems with incriminating emails. ECM industry researcher AIIM has found that a third of organisations have no policy to deal with legal discovery and 40% might need to search back-up tapes to find emails that could be relevant to litigation. The AIIM survey, entitled “Email Management, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, also found that 84% would have no way to justify why emails of a certain age or type had been deleted.   more...

Electronic content still out of control
In its annual “State of the ECM Industry” research report, AIIM has found that managing electronic office documents is still a challenge for 47% of organisations, and that modern business communication channels - instant messages, text messages, blogs and wikis - are uncontrolled and off the corporate radar for 75% of businesses. However, AIIM’s research also found that whereas two years ago compliance was the main driver for bringing this content into a controlled and searchable environment, cost savings and efficiency are now the main motivating factors.   more...

Content Repurposing – ECM’s Best Kept Secret
Recent AIIM research has found that while companies are adopting new approaches to creating and capturing content, they have not been as quick to adopt innovative delivery and publishing methods. When asked the degree to which content is repurposed, 45% of survey respondents indicated “minimally” or “not at all.” Another 28% indicated that content was only “somewhat” repurposed.   more...

AIIM highlights waste on routine inbound transactions
Silver Spring, MD – December 18, 2008 – Recent AIIM research found that 54% of organizations manually re-key some of the content they receive from customers, suppliers, partners and citizens. Nearly 40% of respondents say they don’t scan any of their incoming documents, implying that they still haven’t tapped into the enormous benefits of converting paper documents into a digital stream, despite the fact that these technologies have demonstrated clear ROI from process automation for over a decade.   more...

PDF set to be the format of choice for document archives
Silver Spring, MD – December 18, 2008 – Recent AIIM research found that 90% of organizations are using the PDF file format for long-term storage of scanned documents, and 89% are converting Office files to PDF for distribution and archive. Not surprisingly, paper is currently used by 100% of organizations, but when asked to predict the situation in 5 years time, use of paper for long-term storage dropped to 77%, whereas PDF rose to 93%.   more...

AIIM - The Enterprise Content Management Association announces the expansion of its certificate training program to include two new programs for Business Process Management (BPM) and Information Organization & Access (IOA).
